RED STAG

No other species of big game has captured hunters’ hearts to the degree that the red stag has.  Once the exclusive sport of the kings of Europe, this species is now pursued by hunters from all over the world.  The red stag is found throughout Europe into the Caucasus Mountains of Georgia and Russia,  and into forests of the middle East including Turkey and Iran, it is also found as far east as Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan in Central Asia - and one subspecies even occurs in central China.  Exported as an exotic to South and North America and to the South Pacific, no other big game animal provides as much enjoyment to more hunters.  It is the third largest deer in the world, after moose and wapiti.

The Hunting Consortium Ltd. offers a great variety of hunting programs for red stag on all the continents where it is found.

Wisdom from Experience

The Hunting Consortium Ltd. was founded in Europe.  Bob and Margarete Kern lived in Europe for more than 20 years.  Bob Kern has hunted red stags in most of the famous areas of Europe that produce good trophies.  The Hunting Consortium Ltd., still maintains an office in Germany, and full-time staff in the Balkans, Romania and in the Czech Republic to serve our clients traveling in Europe.  We provide the largest portfolio of European hunting options for red stags of any hunting company in the world.  We have over 40 years of experience arranging stag hunts in Europe - nobody knows Europe like we do!

EUROPE

Europe is the home of the red stag and the largest trophies have always come from Europe.  The best red stag hunting today is found in Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia and Austria.  Romania is the wildest and cheapest, with regard to free-range hunting.  Hungary and Bulgaria are also good choices, with many big stags and excellent lodges, but prices are high.  The Czech Republic is the cheapest, but red stags are only of mediocre quality there.  Croatia is a good compromise for high quality and mid-level prices.  For low prices and good representative quality, Macedonia cannot be beaten.  Some private estates in Austria, offer enormous trophies each season. [The blood line in Austria tends to yield many tines, instead of the typical heavy mass and fewer tines of Eastern European red stags, therefore red stags taken in Austria usually score very well under SCI rules.]

The best time to hunt red stags in Europe is during the rut, which usually takes place between mid-September and the beginning of October, depending on the weather.  Red stags can be successfully hunted as late as December, for those who cannot get away in early fall.

We at the Hunting Consortium Ltd. pride ourselves on planning hunts to deliver the right results for every client according to his/her own individual taste, budget and trophy quality aspirations.  Red stag hunting is a very complex theme, so we encourage those interested to contact us for a thorough briefing and consultation, in order to determine the right hunting option.

SOUTH PACIFIC

Bob Kern and his staff have spent many years traveling, exploring and hunting in Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia.  Bob Kern and his  highly qualified staff personally know every operator we represent and we a re thoroughly familiar with the hunting areas.

New Zealand

For red stag hunts New Zealand has earned a superlative reputation for delivering great trophies and excellent, personalized service in breathtakingly beautiful surroundings.  Although the red stag is an exotic species in New Zealand, having been stocked and released more than 100 years ago, this venue produces some of the finest  red stag heads taken in the world each year.  We represent several of the finest operators on that island nation.

In New Zealand red stags and other deer can be hunted “wild and free” in the mountains, where average trophies can be expected, or in well-managed game ranches, where enormous trophies can be had.  Many of the ranchers there have invested millions of dollars in breeding stock from Europe and in enriching the already superior habitat to make it ideal for red stags.  Excellent fallow deer and American wapiti can also be hunted on some of these ranches.  New Zealand is best hunted from March through September, which is fall and winter in the South Pacific.

SOUTH AMERICA

Argentina

The red stags of Argentina are generally not as big as those you will find in Europe and in New Zealand.  The prices, however, are very reasonable, the people very friendly, and the food is great. Hunts for red stag in Argentina can easily be combined with hunts for other exotic and native species and with the finest “hot-barrel” wing shooting in the world, as well as superb fishing for dorado, trout and other fish.  The Hunting Consortium Ltd. is proud to represent several of the finest and most experienced operators in Argentina.

With so many hunts out there in the world, you can’t know them all, but Bob Kern does. I have hunted and fished on 6 continents over the past 20 years through the Hunting Consortium and have enjoyed every trip. He has never sent me to a bad one. I can’t say the same for the trips that I have arranged myself. I run a large company, with little time for the details that Bob’s experienced staff handles smoothly and completely. I go about my busy schedule until it’s time to get on the airplane and then do so confident that the upcoming adventure is planned with military precision and a thorough knowledge of the game and hunting area. The more experienced I become at worldwide hunting, the more certain I am to book every hunt through Bob.

-Paul Dickson

“Bob Kern and the staff at The Hunting Consortium are great! I have collected all of the argali sheep of the world with Bob’s expert help. He and his staff have explored extensively in Asia to help me find the very best areas for the sheep I wanted. This has resulted in several World Records. Their organization is the best I have ever seen!”
