ARMENIA

The Republic of Armenia emerged as an independent state in the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Armenia is a mountainous country, in the heart of the Caucasus Mountains, which slightly larger than the state of New Hampshire and is bordered to the West by Turkey, to the South by Iran, and to the East by Azerbaijan. The world's oldest Christian nation, Armenia is home to the Armenian mouflon, Bezoar ibex, Mideastern brown bear, European roe deer, wild boar, and several other species of interest to collectors, such as the golden jackal and the Asian swamp cat.

During the last two years the conservation efforts in Armenia have been greatly expanded.. Poaching, which was a huge problem after the collapse of the Soviet Union, has been controlled and several game reserves have been established. Populations of Armenian sheep (mouflon) and bezoar ibex are rebounding very well and trophy quality is getting better with each passing year. Other species found in these areas are also benefiting from the new management efforts.

There are now four (4) unfenced natural game reserves which allow hunting, two in western Armenia near the Turkish border, and two in southern Armenia along the border with Iran. Accommodations are in small bed and breakfast guest houses in the local vicinity. When compared to other post-Soviet republics, the infrastructure and level of service is very good, as is the food and other amenities. Forest Service roads in the reserves lead to the peaks of the mountains which makes this hunt easier in comparison to sheep and ibex hunts elsewhere in the Middle East.

Every hunt is escorted by an experienced, English speaking professional hunter/escort from The Hunting Consortium Ltd. All itineraries are custom-designed to each client’s requirements.
